India head coach Gautam Gambhir has finally addressed the decision to remove Rishabh Pant as India's Test vice-captain, stressing that leadership is about responsibility and adaptability rather than holding an official title.

Pant was recently stripped of the vice-captaincy role ahead of India's one-off Test against Afghanistan, with KL Rahul taking over as deputy to captain Shubman Gill. The move came amid concerns over Pant's recent form and leadership dynamics within the team.

According to reports from the Indian team camp, Gambhir held an extensive discussion with Pant following the decision. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate revealed that the conversation focused on how a senior player should conduct himself within the dressing room and continue contributing as a leader despite not holding a formal leadership position.

Gambhir and the coaching staff have also made it clear that Pant remains a crucial member of India's Test setup. However, they expect the wicketkeeper-batter to adjust his aggressive approach according to match situations and display greater tactical awareness on the field.

Team management sources indicated that Pant has accepted the decision without complaint and continues to enjoy the support of the coaching staff. The message from Gambhir appears to be that leadership extends beyond titles, and Pant is still expected to play a significant role in guiding younger players within the squad.

With India preparing for the Afghanistan Test, all eyes will now be on Pant's performances as he looks to respond positively to the setback and re-establish himself as one of the team's senior leaders.
