This is the story of how I went from humble gear setups to pulling in 290 million GP in just a few days - and unlocking some of the most powerful upgrades on the path toward my ultimate goal: defeatin..

Welcome to my journey through Old School RuneScape (OSRS), where the grind is real, the GP gains are massive, and the pursuit of best-in-slot (BiS) gear becomes an obsession. This is the story of how I went from humble gear setups to pulling in 290 million GP in just a few days - and unlocking some of the most powerful upgrades on the path toward my ultimate goal: defeating the fearsome Zuk in absolute BiS gear.

This isn't just about loot OSRS gold, though. It's about the learning curve, the boss mechanics, the MVP chase, and the rollercoaster of emotions that come with the drops - or lack thereof. Today's story is centered around one of the most lucrative bosses in the game: Nex.

Enter Nex: The Gold Mine Boss

Nex is part of the God Wars Dungeon and is infamous for her five-phase fight mechanics - Smoke, Shadow, Blood, Ice, and the final Zaros phase - each featuring a minion that must be killed before continuing to damage Nex herself. This means that her fight isn't just a DPS check; it's a mechanics check, a coordination challenge, and a test of endurance.

Now, you can fight Nex in mass worlds, but if you're chasing serious money - like 10 to 15 million GP an hour - you want a tight-knit team of three to five. That's what I opted for, and let me tell you, the results have been incredible.

The key mechanic in small teams is the step-under method. Nex attacks on a 4-tick cycle. Most players use 5-tick weapons like the Fang, Twisted Bow (T-Bow), or the Zerite Crossbow. By stepping under Nex on the third tick, you delay your attack by one tick, syncing with her rhythm and drastically reducing incoming damage - crucial for surviving without chugging Saradomin brews like water.

Nex is often jokingly called the Brew Chugging Simulator, and for good reason. If you don't master her mechanics, you'll be bleeding supplies and dying often. But once you get it down? The GP starts flowing.

The Drops That Made Me Rich

Nex's drop table is stacked: the Ancient Hilt, the Zerite Vambraces, the full Torva armor set, the Nihil Horn (used to make the Zerite Crossbow) - all major money-makers. Her average unique drop rate is about 1 in 250 kills. With five people, that means roughly 50 kills per person to hit rate. Manageable.

I started off with humble gear - a budget melee setup. I even had to scramble together 25–30 mil GP just to afford something passable. I debated swaps: Primordial Boots or Dragon Boots? Bring switches or go minimal? Eventually, I pieced together a functional build and set off to rack up some KC.

My first few runs were shaky - Nex is not kind to underprepared players - but after some learning, dying, and a healthy dose of panic eating, I got into the groove. The kill count started ticking up. My first big milestone? 43 KC with a 1.2 million GP total loot haul - not amazing, but the experience gained was priceless.

The Torva Platebody Split

On one of our next runs, someone in the group scored a Torva Platebody drop - a whopping 126 million GP item. After a clean three-way split, I walked away with 42 million GP. That single drop allowed me to buy my first real upgrade of the Best-in-Slot series: the Voidwaker.

The Voidwaker's spec is invaluable at Nex. It adds strong burst DPS and can be the difference-maker in winning the MVP title for a fight - which gives you a higher chance at the unique drop. It felt incredible to finally wield one.

The MVP Chase and More Splits

With my Voidwaker in hand, I returned to Nex with renewed energy. The next few days were pure fire.

  • Day 2: We secured another massive drop -a Torva Full Helm. That brought my total earnings from Nex to over 150 million GP in just 48 hours.
  • Day 3: Another huge win -Torva Platelegs, dropping on an Ironman in the group. After the split, my cash stack jumped to 137 million GP.
  • Along the way, I picked up multiple MVP titles. Even without drops, just being the top performer in the group felt rewarding and confirmed that my build and execution were improving.
  • One funny moment? During one of our early kills, I saw a combat achievement pop up and thought it was a unique drop -classic rookie moment. Still, those little surprises kept the grind fun and unpredictable.Big Upgrades: Voidwaker and Missouri in Sight

With my cash stack now sitting at 181 million GP, I was finally ready to push for the next major milestone: Fortified Masori Armor. This elite ranged armor set costs about 250 million GP, and with only 40 million GP to go, I was almost there.

But in the middle of planning, I remembered something - I still hadn't blessed my Quiver Max Cape, the last variant I was missing. It was a small detour, but the kind of quality-of-life upgrade that makes the grind smoother. So, I made an executive decision: get the Quiver Max Cape now, and then go all-in on Masori.

Reflecting on the Journey (So Far)

In just a few streams, I'd made over 290 million GP from:

  • Three Nex drops
  • One TUA purple
  • One Kree'arra split
  • Dozens of MVP kills
  • More importantly, I transformed from a budget-geared Nex noob into a legitimate MVP contender. I got comfortable with high-level mechanics, learned team coordination, mastered the step-under trick, and started seeing real returns on my investment.

Nex is not just a profitable boss - it's a rite of passage. The Brew Chugging Simulator teaches you a lot about risk, discipline, and optimizing both gear and execution. And when it pays off? It really pays off.

What's Next?

With Fortified Masori on the horizon, my ranged gear will soon be up to par for even more high-level content. And after that? It's time to prepare for the endgame.

The Best-in-Slot series doesn't stop here RS gold. Zuk awaits - and while he's still at the far end of the tunnel, the light is getting brighter.

For now, I'm richer, wiser, and hungrier than ever for that next drop.
