PoE1 3.29.1 rewards a prepared stash more than a fast clear speed. Before spending POE currency, you need to know what your Chart is for, which upgrade your character actually needs, and whether the new systems fit your build rather than merely looking exciting.
The Patch Changes Your Priorities
Curse of the Allflame is built around Charts, Voyages, Allflame Lanterns, Ducats, and Dead Man's Sulphur. A Chart has value on its own, but it can also become one piece of a larger Voyage with altered borders, rewards, and difficulty. That means a flashy reward modifier isn't automatically the best pick. A modest Chart that completes a clean route may outperform a stronger-looking option that creates awkward terrain or demands more Sulphur than your character can justify.
Read the League Loop Before You Spend
Version 3.29.1 adds Eldritch Depths Charts, Ukatoa's Ducat, Sunken Opulence chests, and Sunken Gems chests. Dredged currency can now affect Strongboxes and Essences, while Ancient Orbs and Orbs of Chance join Allflame crafting. The gold cost for buying Charts through the in-game market also fell. From what I've seen, the common mistake is treating every new resource as something to spend immediately.
Keep useful Sulphur for a Voyage whose reward profile matches your build.
Check whether Dredged currency has a better target below than on your first available object.
Use Ducats to improve an item with a defined purpose, not a random base with empty potential.
Compare the full route, including danger and travel time, before judging its loot.
Equipment Is Less About Color, More About Value
The socket rework changes the old gear checklist. Gems can fit into equipment sockets without matching colors, while red, green, and blue sockets grant 10% quality to a matching gem. White sockets remain the default, and Chromatic Orbs force one non-white socket while the rest are determined normally. In practice, place the gems that make the build function first, then chase matching colors only when their quality bonus improves your main damage link or an important utility skill. Spending heavily to recreate an old color pattern can leave you poorer for a very small gain.
Mercenaries and Abyss Need Separate Evaluation
Mercenaries now deserve more than a quick look at their displayed damage. Their skill behavior, supports, range, defenses, equipment, and uptime matter far more during a messy map. The Scion's Luminary Ascendancy can permanently hire up to three, keep two in reserve, and field one ally. Patch 3.29.1 improves early performance, raises Infamous appearances in maps, and gives permanent allies better support access and recovery conditions. Abyss also shifts toward open pits, concentrated rewards, stronger chest value, Abyssal Jewels, Stygian Vises, and shorter Lich encounters. The right choice depends on your goal.

The Research Habit I Wish I Had Earlier
Don't read a PoE1 wiki page as a finished answer. Check the version history, separate acquisition from function, and follow every linked mechanic that affects your decision. A build may require an Abyss-exclusive item to farm Abyss efficiently, creating a progression loop that needs a temporary replacement or a trade purchase. I could be wrong but, at least in my experience, this dependency check saves more time than another hour of blind grinding. For trade players, POE currency buy can solve one missing link, but only after you know which link is actually holding the build back.
