Cold Snap brings snow, Frostbite, blizzards and noisy footprints to ARC Raiders, plus the Flickering Flames community event and the free Goalie Raider Deck packed with Tokens, gear and cosmetics.

I jumped back into ARC Raiders after the December 16 update and, yeah, it hit fast. One minute I'm thinking it's the same old routes, the next I'm freezing mid-jog and checking my kit like I forgot something obvious. If you're stocking up or planning your next run, keeping an eye on ARC Raiders Coins doesn't hurt, because the new loop punishes going in "light" more than it used to.

Cold Snap Changes the Map

The snow isn't just a texture pass. It messes with how you rotate, how long you can stay exposed, and how loud your mistakes are. Frostbite creeps in when you linger, and it doesn't care if you're "almost there." You start making dumb calls. Ducking behind the wrong cover. Cutting across open ground because you're panicking. And those footprints are the real giveaway. You can't pretend you weren't here. If you're used to slow-playing Buried City or taking wide flanks on Blue Gate, you'll need new habits, quick.

Ice, Physics, and the New Kind of Panic

The ice is what got me. I didn't respect it, tried to sprint a frozen stretch like it was normal terrain, and suddenly I'm sliding in a straight line with zero dignity. That's the scary part: you're not always in control now. A fight can start because you physically can't stop where you want to stop. And when visibility drops, it gets worse. People think storms mean safety. Nah. They mean you'll hear a burst, turn, and realize you've got nowhere warm to reset. Carry something that buys time, because "I'll just move faster" isn't a plan anymore.

Flickering Flames and Why It Feels Worth Doing

The Flickering Flames event running through January 13 actually lands well. It's not just a chore list; it's more like a background goal you'll complete while playing. You're grabbing candleberries, snagging Topside bits, and feeding those big banquet turn-ins when you can. The Merits track is the hook. You gain XP, you climb, you get useful stuff back. Tokens, weapons, utilities, the kind of rewards that help you survive the weather instead of just looking cool in the lobby.

New Progression and the Shortcut Temptation

On December 26 the Goalie Raider Deck drops, and it being permanent is the best part. No deadline pressure, no sweaty "finish it tonight" nonsense. The hockey stick tool and the themed cosmetics are fun, sure, but the real win is having another steady track to work on while the Cold Snap is trying to chew you up. And if you're stuck in that early grind where every run is a resource leak, plenty of players take the faster route and sort out materials, blueprints, or a better baseline loadout so they can actually learn the high-tier zones. If that's you, just be smart about where you spend and how you plan, because ARC Raiders Coins cheap only matter if the rest of your kit decisions make sense.
