India have been dealt a major setback ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, with star batter Virat Kohli reportedly ruled out due to a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, questions continue to surround the fitness and availability of captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Virat Kohli Set to Miss Entire ODI Series

According to multiple reports citing BCCI sources, Kohli sustained a hamstring injury and is expected to miss all three ODIs against Afghanistan. The injury concern emerged shortly after his IPL 2026 campaign, where he played a crucial role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's title-winning season. While the BCCI had initially named Kohli in the ODI squad, his injury appears to have ruled him out of the series.

Rohit Sharma's Availability Still Unclear

The situation remains uncertain regarding Rohit Sharma. The India captain was included in the squad announced by the BCCI, but his selection was made subject to fitness clearance following concerns over a hamstring issue that limited his appearances during the IPL. Reports suggest the team management is still awaiting a final assessment before confirming his participation.

Hardik Pandya Under Fitness Assessment

Hardik Pandya's place in the squad is also dependent on fitness clearance. The all-rounder has reportedly been asked to undergo evaluation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru ahead of the Afghanistan series. Recent reports indicate that Hardik has reported for fitness testing, while the board continues to monitor his readiness for international cricket.

BCCI Yet to Issue Official Update

The BCCI's squad announcement for the Afghanistan ODIs clearly stated that both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya were selected subject to fitness clearance. As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding replacements for Kohli or final fitness approvals for Rohit and Hardik.

Afghanistan ODI Series Schedule

India will host Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series beginning on June 13, with matches scheduled in Dharamshala, Lucknow, and Chennai. The absence of Kohli and uncertainty around Rohit and Hardik could significantly impact India's preparations for the series.
