If you've been struggling with your Google Pixel’s back button or gesture navigation acting up, there’s good news: the August 2025 Pixel update has finally fixed the frustrating bug. Since the debut of Android 16, users on devices like the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 reported that navigation often became sluggish or completely unresponsive—pressing the back button would do nothing for up to 30 seconds, and swipe gestures sporadically failed to register.
Google’s latest patch, identified by build number BP2A.250805.005, addresses this bug head-on. The update restores reliable functionality for both three-button navigation and gesture-based back navigation, eliminating the delays and inconsistencies that had disrupted countless user experiences.
Beyond navigation, the update also tackles other critical issues. It resolves the glitch where scheduled dark mode failed to activate under certain circumstances. Moreover, it includes a high-severity security fix (CVE-2025-48530) that previously exposed devices to remote code execution, even without user interaction—a serious threat that has now been patched .
What devices are covered?
This vital update is rolling out to all supported Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series onward—including the Pixel 9 series, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel 9a.
User guidance:
If your Pixel hasn’t updated automatically yet, head to Settings → System → Software update → System update and manually check for it. Given the severity of the issues addressed—especially navigation and security—installing the patch promptly is highly recommended.
